Fat morph age progression4/19/2023 ![]() ![]() THE computerized “morphing” process used in the TLC series “Honey We’re Killing the Kids!” is based on one used by police around the world to build composite images of missing persons, the cable network says. “Ninety-nine percent of them say IS VIRTUALLY REALITY And we ask them the classic question, ‘Have you ever really thought about how your child would look at 40?’ “Parents have been motivated by these images,” she said. “They’re overweight people with poor skin and rotten teeth.” “These people look like my patients,” Hark said of the photos used on the show. Their parents gave them no choice – especially after mom and dad saw the computer-generated pictures depicting their sons as bloated, round-shouldered adults. The boys rebelled against the sudden, drastic changes, but eventually accepted them. Last October, Hark and a film crew from the show came to the Youngs’ home for three weeks and radically altered the family’s eating habits. They were also hooked on television, which meant they got little exercise. Each of them had supplies of junk food scattered throughout the house and ate from these secret stashes whenever they felt like it. The boys were virtually addicted to fried foods and sweets. “I mean, we have kids drinking two liters of soda a day watching 7 to 10 hours of television a day,” she said. “After I had visited a number of families, I said to myself, ‘It’s no wonder we have an epidemic of obesity in adults and children,’ ” Hark said. Lisa Hark of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, says she was shocked by what she found in the households chosen for the show. The show’s in-house nutrition expert and host, Dr. kids ages 5-19 – an estimated 9 million children – are clinically obese.
